Seeing Double

Be brave enough to live life creatively. The creative place where no one else has ever been.

I have seen double exposures before and hadn’t given it much thought to trying my hand at it. I think mostly because it looked imitating and seem liked a lot of work to learn. One of the ways to do it is through photoshop and I’ve had a fear of that for a while that I’m starting to get over. When the stay at home order for Illinois began I made a list of photography things I wanted to try or learn. Double exposure made the list because I wanted to push myself and to help learn tools that would make me a better photographer even if I don’t use it in my day to day life as a photographer.

I tried my hand at learning this a couple of days ago and it took me a whole afternoon to learn. I had lots of starting and stopping because of discretions and frustrations. I started with one youtube video and after a while of not being able to figure it out I tried another one. With the second one I was able to figure it out and make a couple of ones that first day. I spent the whole next day playing around with other photos I have to see what I could come up with. I learned what I did and didn’t like when it came to a double exposure and started to improve my skills.

I have a feeling this is something I’m going to be experimenting with for a while. I have other combinations that I want to try that I haven’t gotten to yet. I have gotten faster at the process and I don’t have to refer to the video as often to figure out what I’m doing. I also learned how to do it in camera but I haven’t played around with it yet. I will play around with doing it in camera when I’m not in quarantine. I might try to make a trip out to a forest preserve when I get a chance.
